AMSTERDAM: The Spyker C8 Preliator is getting more exposure at the upcoming New York International Automobile Show. It was first shown at the just-ended Geneva Motor Show.

Spyker will produce just 50 units of the C8 Preliator worldwide.

By mounting a supercharger to the Audi V8 engine, Spyker has improved the performance of the C8 Preliator significantly as compared to its predecessor. The 525-hp engine allows the 1.4-ton car to go from 0 to 100kph in 3.7s.

The 2-door mid-engine sports car features a highly detailed design, bespoke materials and aviation-inspired elements. Spyker's third-generation sports car features design cues from jet propulsion aircraft, highlighting the turbine blade, NACA duct air inlets and little wings, ailerons, to improve the car's aerodynamic performance.

The "Preliator" name, which means "fighter" or "warrior" in Latin, pays tribute to the company's aviation heritage: "Fighters" are warplanes as made by Spyker between 1914 and 1918. But even more so, "Preliator" symbolises the uphill battles Spyker faced and won in the past couple of years.

"Historically, Spyker has sold half of its production in the US, with a very large number of cars sold through the company's first US dealer, Manhattan Motor Cars," said Spyker's founder and chief executive officer Victor R. Muller.
