SST-free cars for Mazda buyers before Sept 1

PENANG: Local Mazda distributor Bermaz Motor has re-affirmed its commitment to absorb the SST (sales and service tax) for customers that book Mazda cars before the SST is re-implemented on Sept 1.

Bermaz Motor CEO Datuk Seri Ben Yeoh said, "Confirmed orders made before Sept 1 will be honoured, and we will absorb the impact of the SST. This is done to build customer loyalty. Of course, our costs are higher due to this, but we can cushion this by cutting down on promotional and marketing activities. Logistic costs can also be reduced as we can better plan ahead, with the high volume of vehicle orders. The yen's favourable exchange rate has also helped us."

Yeoh said the company has completely run down its vehicle inventory.

"Demand has far exceeded our ability to supply. Other car companies are also in the same situation as car buyers rushed to take advantage of the tax holiday. It's historic. We foresee the supply situation to drag until the end of the year," said Yeoh after launching the company's latest Mazda branch and 3S Centre in Jelutong, Georgetown – Penang.
