StarCarsifu Auto Show 2023: Subaru

By CARSIFU | 8 August 2023

THE new Subaru Forester has the award-winning preventive safety system EyeSight 4.0, which is more intuitive than ever – introducing four new variants, priced at RM173,500 (2.0 i-L EyeSight), RM179,500 (2.0 i-LEyeSight GT Lite), RM183,500 (2.0 i-S EyeSight) and RM195,500 (2.0 i-S EyeSight GT Edition).

Subaru’s EyeSight 4.0 unique combination of Lane Centering Function, Lane Departure Prevention, Pre-Collison Braking, and other functions fulfill Level 2 ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) semi-autonomous driving technology that adds another layer of protection and safety, as well as enhanced driver assistance is not commonly found in CKD (completely knocked down) vehicles.

The EyeSight 4.0 technology has improved stereo cameras and is upgraded with new features.

The top two Forester variants (2.0 i-S EyeSight and GT Edition) have Autonomous Emergency Steering, Subaru Rear Vehicle Detection (SRVD), and High Beam Assist (HBA).

Autonomous Emergency Steering helps steer the Forester away from a vehicle or obstacle in front to avoid an accident (up to 80kph), while with SRVD, radar sensors check for traffic approaching from behind the vehicle to warn the driver during lane changes and while reversing or backing up from a parking lot.

HBA improves visibility, especially at night or in dark areas, minimising the risk of potential collisions.

Relying on the dual stereo cameras, HBA switches between high and low beams automatically.

Meanwhile, Lane Centering Function helps to steer the Forester to keep it in the middle of the lane, while Lane Departure Prevention nudges the steering wheel slightly toward the inside of the Forester’s lane when it detects that the driver is about to cross the line/lane markings while travelling at 60kph or more.

Pre-Collision Braking has also been improved and now covers more intersectional traffic scenarios.

The improved X-MODE on the 2023 Forester complements Subaru’s symmetrical all-wheel drive (SAWD) to allow owners to drive more confidently, especially on uneven surfaces or challenging inclines.

Also, the two new GT Lite and GT Edition body kits provide better aerodynamic performance derived from the front and rear lip extensions, side skirts, and a roof spoiler.

The new body kits were created in close collaboration with renowned engineering company Giken Co Ltd and Masahiko “Jack” Kobayashi, who was part of Subaru’s original team that created the iconic exterior designs for over 12 production models, including the legendary WRX STI.

The suspension has also been re-tuned to make the ride smoother with better handling.

All four variants come standard with an 8-inch touchscreen audio system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, a 360-degree around-view monitor system, 8-way power driver and front passenger’s adjustable seats, and Subaru Intelligent Drive modes (Sport and Intelligent).

Meanwhile, the Subaru XV 2.0 EyeSight sport utility vehicle (SUV) is now available with new upgrades of Power Tailgate, greater convenience on the go, and Interior Ambient Lights that offer illumination in the cabin.

The equipment package on the XV includes an 8-inch touchscreen audio system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.

The XV EyeSight GT Edition gets a 360-degree around-view monitor system, enabling drivers to park and manoeuvre easily, a new sportier GT body kit and rims, and leather seats.

The XV EyeSight is priced at RM149,788 (2.0 EyeSight) and RM156,788 (GT Edition) on the road without insurance.

It’s worth noting that EyeSight advanced driver assist is part of the four Subaru core technologies, including the Subaru global platform (SGP), SAWD, and the boxer engine.

The SGP was engineered with three main objectives: increasing straight-line stability, reducing noise and vibration, and boosting ride comfort.

The rigid framework changes how Subaru cars drive, handle, and feel under all road conditions.

Enhancing overall safety and performance, SGP goes beyond better performance to offer a driving feel which can only be found in a Subaru.

As for SAWD, it distributes power to all four wheels for maximum control.

SAWD provides double traction and doubles safety as it continually monitors all wheels and adapts to provide maximum road grip and outstanding control on every turn.

At the core of Subaru’s performance, the boxer engine has a flat design that delivers more stability and balance, providing passengers with driving enjoyment.

In addition, the Lineartronic continuously variable transmission (CVT) with a seven-speed override automatically optimises power delivery, acceleration, and fuel efficiency.

Promotions for Subaru buyers include a free 5-year comprehensive maintenance service package for the new Forester, up to RM7,000 rebates, and a free 5-year comprehensive maintenance service package for the XV. Terms apply.

Visit Subaru’s display at the StarCarSifu Auto Show 2023 in Mid Valley Megamall from Aug 9 to 13.
