The car is the preferred place to co-listen to podcasts

PARIS: Are you more likely to listen to podcasts with friends or loved ones in your car than at home? So suggests research from SXM Media, Carat and Edison Research for the subscription-based music streaming service, Pandora.

They surveyed 1,850 Americans over the age of 13 about how they listen to podcasts. More and more Americans are getting together to listen to the radio or podcasts with others. In fact, 12% co-listen to podcasts daily. Women, Hispanic Americans and parents are the most likely to listen to podcasts with others.

More people co-listen in the car than at home

According to the study, the car has become the preferred place to co-listen to podcasts on a daily basis. Some 16% of people who listen to podcasts in the car did so with other people at their side.

The car even manages to surpass the home, which represents 13% of group listening. Between connected cars, Smart TVs and games consoles, there is no shortage of devices via which listeners can tune in to their favorite podcasts. However, the smartphone is the most popular device for co-listening to podcasts.

Listeners also prefer podcasts in the "Comedy," "News" and "True Crime" genres for listening together with others. Certain times are also more conducive to co-listening, such as vacations, car trips and social events.
