STUTTGART: Mercedes is set to launch the newest edition of the CLS. The four-door coupe, based on the German carmaker's E-Class model, will mark its world premiere at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November and will hit markets later in 2018.

Now in its third generation, the CLS will get a little bit longer, and at 4.99 metres in length will fit comfortably into the gap between E-Class and the S-Class.

Thanks to its larger wheelbase, the CLS will have more legroom and higher head clearance than before. And for the first time, it is also available as a five-seater on request.

Other new options include extras such as assistance systems that allow for near-autonomous driving on highway or major regional roads.

Previous extras such as the LED headlights now come standard.

Under the newly designed body, there are also fresh engine choices. The CLS is the first model from the E-Class family to adopt the six-cylinder engines introduced with the last S-Class facelift.
