TOYOTA CITY: Toyota today launched the new Roomy and Tank, both of which will be made available through Toyota, Toyota Corolla, Toyopet, as well as Netz dealers throughout Japan.

Both the new Roomy and the new Tank are based on the "1LD-CAR" concept, which combines a spacious interior with driving performance, and represent the new compact MPVs that are described as suitable for families with small children, as well as customers with wide-ranging lifestyles.

For both models, attractive features, such as a power sliding door for easy entry and exit, a spacious interior, and variable seating configurations have been incorporated into a compact form.

The use of walkthrough front seats allows vehicle occupants to move between the front and rear seats easily. The rear seats can be slid forward by 240mm and, in their front-most positions, allow four carry-on suitcases to be loaded in the cargo space with five occupants in the vehicle.

While retaining an easy-to-maneuver compact size with a minimum turning radius of 4.6m, a maximum distance of 1,105mm has been maintained between the front and rear passengers, achieving roomy rear seats.

The bonnet is kept low to ensure excellent visibility of the meters that are arranged in front of the driver's seat. The standard grade comes in orange and brown, which project warmth and calm. The custom grade uses water-repellent sheeting for the black interior, highlighting the tech blue and silver ornamentation.

Comfortable acceleration performance is achieved with a newly developed 1.0-litre turbo engine that can produce torque equivalent to that of a 1.5-litre class engine at 140Nm. Both cars use a CVT and are available in front-wheel drive and 4WD versions. Prices range from 1.4 million yen to 2 million yen (RM60,000 to RM83,000).

Toyota has designed the cars for excellent fuel efficiency, making them eligible for the Japanese government's subsidies and tax incentives for eco-cars. Fuel efficiency of 24.6 km/l for the two-wheel drive model, 22.0 km/L9 for the four-wheel drive model, and 21.8 km/L9 for the turbo-engine model
