SEREMBAN: Two Road Transport Department (JPJ) officers have been detained by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission for allegedly being involved in the illegal registration of smuggled vehicles.

They were among three men and a woman, aged between their early 20s and 30s, who were detained by the commission in separate raids here last week.

A source said based on preliminary investigations, some 10,000 road tax discs and 1,500 vehicle registration cards were believed to have been taken out of the state JPJ office here since last November.

“We have reasons to believe that these discs could have been used on vehicles smuggled into the country,” he said.

State MACC chief Shaharom Nizam Abd Manap confirmed the arrests.

He also advised those who had reasons to believe that their cars were illegally registered to voluntarily surrender them.
