PETALING JAYA: Malaysia’s motor vehicle sales for February 2022 went up marginally by 0.63% to 43,722 units, from 43,448 units a year ago, according to the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA).

In its monthly update, MAA said of the total, passenger vehicles (PV) accounted for 38,823 units while commercial vehicles (CV) comprised 4,899 units.

Year-to-date, sales volume was higher by almost 10% at 84,303 units compared with 76,840 units in the same period in 2021.

MAA said total industry volume (TIV) for February 2022 was 8% higher than January 2022, which was 40,581 units.

It said TIV was higher as auto companies ramped up production to fulfil backlog orders.

In terms of total production, 51,291 vehicles were produced in February 2022 compared with 45,199 units in February 2021.

On the outlook for March, MAA expects sales to be higher than February as there would be a push for higher sales by companies having their financial year ending on March 31 and longer working month.
