PETALING JAYA: Volvo Car Malaysia’s latest locally assembled S90 T8 Twin Engine Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) in Inscription trim is now open for orders with a special introductory price of RM348,888 (on-the-road with GST without insurance).

Produced in Volvo Cars’ Shah Alam facility, the S90 T8 Twin Engine will complement both the V90 and S90 T6 R-Design and introduce the Inscription trim level, the most luxurious trim level available for Malaysia, to the S90 model range.

“The S90 T8 Twin Engine Inscription is our expression of luxury, performance and class-leading technologies and with an absolutely competitive price, it will be the best offer within the Premium D-E Segment in Malaysia,” said Volvo Car Malaysia managing director Lennart Stegland.

Volvo’s unique take on hybrid powertrains will see the S90 T8 Twin Engine deliver uncompromising power, handling and efficiency without sacrificing the characteristics of a premium sedan.

Stegland said Volvo’s approach to PHEVs is a totally different from what is currently available in the market; by placing the hybrid battery in the tunnel, it does not only lower the centre of gravity and improve handling, it also leaves precious cargo space in the sedan unaffected.

The T8 Twin Engine powertrain outputs a total of 407hp and 640Nm of torque is managed by an 8-speed automatic transmission which results in a 0- 100kph sprint of 4.8 seconds.

With the front wheels powered by the petrol engine and the rear wheels independently propelled by an electrical motor, power delivery will be instantaneous.

The complete specifications of the vehicle will be released during the official launch of the S90 T8 Twin Engine Inscription.

The locally assembled S90 T8 Twin Engine will also follow the way of the XC90 T8 Twin Engine and will be exported to select markets in the region.

With its capability to assemble electrified Volvos, the Malaysian production plant has secured its place within Volvo’s global electrification strategy which will eventually see all Volvo models launched with some level of hybridisation.
