NEW YORK: In another case of prodtc placement, the new Volvo XC40 compact SUV will be seen in the Tomb Raider film. It hits cinemas this Friday – just ahead of the US launch of the vehicle.

The car featured in Tomb Raider is a British specification XC40 White R-Design. For Tomb Raider fans looking to get behind the wheel of the car that is seen in the film, Volvo have created a Lara Croft configuration of the Volvo XC40 online, albeit with the steering wheel on the other side of the car:

Named the 2018 European Car of the Year earlier this year, the XC40 is focused on a new expression of Scandinavian design with style, innovative technologies and fun-to-drive characteristics.

The XC40 comes in a choice of a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol and diesel engine. It completes the SUV line-up for Volvo, which includes the bigger XC60 and XC90.

The compact SUV is the first model on Volvo Cars’ new compact modular-vehicle architecture (CMA), which will underpin all upcoming cars in the 40 Series, including fully electrified vehicles. Co-developed within Geely, CMA provides the company with the necessary economies of scale for this segment.

The XC40 is also the first Volvo to come with a car-sharing feature, enabled via Volvo’s digital key technology and its connected services platform Volvo On Call.

The Tomb Raider action-adventure flick by Warner Bros. Pictures and Metro Goldwyn Mayer Pictures stars Academy Award winner Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft.

“We’re very excited for the Volvo XC40 to have its film debut with Tomb Raider,” said Bob Jacobs of Volvo Car USA. “One of the things we love about the film is Lara Croft’s character: bold, surprising and always ready for adventure, just like the XC40.”
