Wipe sticky tree sap off of your car's finish right away

BERLIN: If you leave your car parked under a tree during the spring months, you may well return to find it coated in a sticky and resinous layer.

Drivers should wash these sticky layers off as quickly and thoroughly as possible, Germany's largest automobile club, the ADAC, warns.

These substances, such as the honeydew secreted by aphids feeding on tree blossoms, can damage a car's paint in much the same way as bird droppings. The best option here is a thorough car wash routine including pre-wash.

However, while the yellow, dusty film from pollen may be annoying, it is usually safe for a car's finish, says the ADAC. From time to time, drivers can wash off the dust with water.
