BMW opens Designworks studio in Shanghai

The studio, surrounded by cultural institutions, aims to develop new design ideas for both BMW and other clients.
The official inauguration of the studio took place during the Nov 9-12 West Bund Art & Design Fair Shanghai, where BMW Group presented a talk on "Art & Design: Co-Creation x Technology".
The studio is an integral part of BMW Group's Research and Development Centre in Shanghai, allowing for collaboration and idea-sharing.
Designworks Shanghai provides valuable insights into Chinese culture, tradition, and customer needs, helping to create human-centered design innovations for the Chinese and wider Asian markets.
The studio's influence is evident in the model variant of the new 5 Series Sedan, specifically designed for the Chinese market.
Designworks Shanghai combines traditional craftsmanship with visionary materials to create a sustainable interpretation of quality.
The studio also contributes to BMW Group's digital experience, including the visualisation of BMW IPA and the creation of the MINI digital companion, "SPIKE".
Designworks Shanghai works with clients from various industries, providing an outside-in perspective and innovative design ideas.
The studio has worked with CRRC, designing high-speed trains, and has worked with Chinese e-bike manufacturer Yadea and luxury kitchen manufacturer Fotile.
