Cupra's concept of an entry-level city electric blends cheap and sexy
By DPA | 05 September 2021BARCELONA: Small car, powerful engine. Cupra says its electric small car plans are bound for mass production and meant to make clean mobility halfway affordable.
As a preview of the successor to the Mii and its cousins VW Up and SEAT CitiGo, the SEAT subsidiary is set to show off the concept at the IAA car show in Munich (Sept 7 to 12). Its production version has been confirmed for 2025.
Sportily overstyled and upgraded to a racing car for the trade fair appearance, it anticipates the electric entry-level model of the VW Group.
With this, the price of an electric car is to drop to around €20,000. The company's modular electric construction kit serves as the basis and the car is set to roll off the factory line in Barcelona.
The UrbanRebell measures 4.09 metres in length, is just under 1.80 metres wide and, at 1.45 metres, unusually low for an electric car.
The concept car is powered by two electric motors that produce a peak output of 435hp and enable acceleration similar to that of a super sports car. According to Cupra, it takes only 3.2 seconds to go from 0 to 100kph.
