KUALA LUMPUR: The livelihood of some 12,000 MyCar drivers are at stake following the recent migration of the e-hailing app to a new version.

Although the drivers have moved on to the new platform, few passengers have done so, causing fewer ride orders for the drivers.

MyCar founder and director Mohd Noah Maideen said the new MyCar SuperApp was introduced in April to replace the old app.

“This is a migration to a brand new app and it is different from an upgrade.

“The old version has been deactivated and cannot be used anymore.

“We call on our users to uninstall the old version and download the new app as this will help our drivers to get jobs,’’ he said in a press conference here yesterday.

Some drivers have been complaining that many passengers were not aware of the app migration, causing them to have few orders even during peak hours.

“We used to get about 65,000 ride orders nationwide a day before the movement control order. It has dropped to between 4,000 and 5,000 orders a day,’’ he said.

To help drivers and give passengers time to migrate to the new app, Mohd Noah said MyCar was forgoing its 12% commission until the end of the month.

MyCar is the fastest growing e-hailing platform after Grab, with about 22,000 registered drivers and over three million users to date.

Mohd Noah said the app migration was necessary following some disagreement with the previous developer to make the app multifunctional.

“So we decided to move on and have a brand new app that combines all functions in one,’’ he said, adding that over 80% of its drivers had adopted the new app, with the rest in the process of activation.

“The adoption rate among our customers has been slow, as only about 40% of the three million users have downloaded the new app,’’ he said.Combining the function of e-hailing, food and general deliveries, and shopping, Mohd Noah said the new app was the second multifunction platform after Grab aimed at giving consumers more choices by creating healthy competition.

“We are the first homegrown e-hailing operator that offers various functions through the app.

“For now, the app provides e-hailing functions and we expect to settle all teething issues, including achieving better matching between passengers and drivers, by the end of the month.

“The food, delivery and shopping functions in the app will go live together with the grand launch in mid-September,’’ he said, assuring passengers and drivers that their personal data remain secure with the app change.

“All data belongs to MyCar developer Platform Apps Sdn Bhd and it is safe in our server,” he added.
