EPMB subsidiary gets conditional vehicle manufacturing licence
By THE STAR | 11 July 2023PETALING JAYA: Automotive parts maker EP Manufacturing Bhd (EPMB) says Peps-JV (Melaka) Sdn Bhd, its wholly-owned subsidiary, has received conditional approval from the Investment, Trade and Industry Ministry for a licence to manufacture and assemble energy-efficient vehicles.
This will also include electric passenger vehicles and electric commercial vehicles.
Last year, EPMB announced it has secured approval from the Malaysian government to register and license its first-ever two-wheel electric vehicles (EVs) from China.
In March this year, it launched the Blueshark R series scooters which run on swappable batteries.
EPMB has also been busy with other deals. It has secured the exclusive right to assemble and distribute the Lingbao-developed electric cars in the Malaysian and Indonesian markets.
It had said last year that the five-year deal also allowed EPMB the option to use its own brand name for the electric vehicles.
It is also seeking a stake in battery infrastructre. It signed a memorandum of understanding with Tenaga Switchgear Sdn Bhd recently to roll out battery swapping stations and related infrastructure across Asean, including Malaysia.
