First images of new Maserati GranCabrio prototype unveiled
By CARSIFU | 25 October 2022MODENA: Maserati has released initial images of the new GranCabrio prototype as it takes to the streets of Modena for the initial stages of development testing.
The GranTurismo and GranCabrio are the brand’s first cars to adopt a 100% electric solution, with the former already having made its debut earlier this month.
The new models are intended to launch the Folgore electric range by 2030.
Ahead of the launch of the new GranCabrio, expected next year, prototype models are undergoing intensive testing (on the road, on the track and in various usage conditions), aimed at gathering essential data for optimal final tuning.
Like the hardtop version, the GranCabrio is expected to launch with a combustion engine first in the form of a twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre powerplant making up to 550hp/650Nm
The all-electric GranCabrio wil be the Italian carmaker's most potent series convertible as it would be endowed with two motors that collectively reel out 750 horses and 1,350Nm of torque from the get-go.
As the GranCabrio would be heavier than the coupe because of the added weight, its 0-100kph sprint would be a little slower than the 2.7s than that of the GranTurismo. But still very impressive all the same.
