Hyundai’s Ioniq 6 teased in concept sketch

SEOUL: Hyundai Motor Company today revealed a design concept sketch of its highly anticipated Ioniq 6, the second model in its Ioniq all-electric lineup brand after the Ioniq 5.

The concept sketch depicts the unique and streamlined silhouette of the Ioniq 6.

Inspired by the company’s Prophecy concept EV, Hyundai has called the Ioniq 6 an "Electrified Streamliner" with clean, simple lines and an aerodynamic form.

The streamliner design shown in the sketch reflects Hyundai designers’ commitment to satisfy both aesthetic and functional needs of customers in the electric mobility era.

The Ioniq 6,  which wants to  compete against the BMW i4,  takes advantage of Hyundai Motor Group’s Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) to provide a stretched wheelbase and optimised interior design.

Hyundai will be releasing more Ioniq 6 teaser images in the coming days. And we reckoned final technical details would be revealed at the July 14-24 Busan Motor Show.

As a higher-end model than the Ioniq 5, the Ioniq 6 will reportedly has a tad larger 77.4-kWh battery and a nicer infotainment setup. Hyundai will certainly offer dual motor and single motor variants for all-wheel and rear-wheel drive respectively.

That would correspond to outputs of around 300hp and sub-200hp in the respective variants. Note that 576hp can be squeezed out of the E-GMP platform as proven in the Kia EV6 GT, which shares the same underlying structure.

The Ioniq 6 should be capable of travelling up to 500km before needing a charge.

An Ioniq 7 with three rows is also in the works and is expected to be ready by 2023.

Hyundai is also working with Michelin to develop tyres optimised for electric vehicles.
