Maserati Grecale SUV coming in November
By CARSIFU | 06 August 2021MODENA: Maserati will be unveiling its second SUV in November.
Pegged below the mid-size Levante, the compact SUV named Grecale would be available with a petrol engine, as a plug-in hybrid, and also as an all-electric vehicle.
Word is that the Grecale would get a differently tuned 2.0-litre turbo 4-pot engine found in the base Stelvio. Relaying that output to the rear axle or both axles could be an 8-speed automatic. A Trofeo version might even come later, packing over 500hp as seen in the Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio.
It is a Maserati tradition to name cars after the most famous winds in the world. Starting in 1963, with the legendary Mistral, the brand followed this practice with the Ghibli, Bora, Merak and Khamsin.
In 2016, the brand’s first SUV was named Levante. Now it’s Grecale’s turn, a strong north-east wind of the Mediterranean.
It was only fitting that a sailboat named Maserati Multi 70 would be involved in various sporting adventures over the next few months to promote the upcoming arrival of the Grecale, with its special mainsail dedicated to the next SUV from the Italian car maker.
