MCO extended from Feb 5 to Feb 18, says Ismail Sabri
By THE STAR | 02 February 2021PUTRAJAYA: The movement control order (MCO) has been extended and will be enforced from Feb 5 to Feb 18.
Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said all states except for Sarawak will be placed under MCO.
The current MCO ends on Feb 4. Sarawak is placed under conditional MCO.
Sabri said the government has decided to extend the MCO after Health Ministry reported that daily Covid-19 cases in all states remains high and infectivity rates are also high.
“Following this, the National Security Council special meeting has agreed to extend the MCO starting from Feb 5 to Feb 18,” he said.
With the Feb 12-13 Chinese New Year around the corner, authorities would soon issue a revised set of standard operating procedure (SOP) for everyone to follow.
Sabri said the Health and National Unity ministries would hold further discussion about this with the National Security Council.
“They are preparing the SOP. Once it is ready, we will make it known to the public, ” he said.
As part of the MCO, interstate travel will continue to be disallowed.
“When we allowed interstate travel previously, it contributed to an increase in positive cases," said Sabri.
