Mercedes to launch C-Class as all-terrain model
By DPA | 19 August 2021STUTTGART: After giving the E-Class a rugged makeover, Mercedes is now also sending the C-Class into off-road terrain. For all those who find the C-Class too well-behaved for an estate and too chunky for an SUV, an all-terrain model is coming.
The third model variant of the series is to celebrate its premiere at the new version of the Frankfurt car show taking place in Munich (Sep 7-12) and go on sale later this year.
The maker isn't naming prices yet, but if the ordinary estate with comparable drive and equipment starts at just under €50,000 (RM248,000) in its home market, then we can expect the All-Terrain to be somewhat higher.
So what makes it more rugged? According to Mercedes, the All-Terrain differs from the conventional estate mainly by having 4cm more ground clearance and two additional driving programmes for loose surfaces, mud and snow.
In addition, the body is fitted with distinctive plastic parts to protect against scratches and give the car a robust appearance.
According to Mercedes, there is a choice of petrol and diesel engines. Both are designed as mild hybrids and have four cylinders as well as an electric starter-generator.
Mercedes says the petrol engine in the C 200 has a capacity of 1.5 litres and 204hp, while the diesel engine in the C 220 d has a capacity of 2.0 litres and 200hp. Mercedes is not yet providing fuel consumption figures.
