New Land Rover Discovery teased ahead of Paris debut

LONDON: Land Rover has issued the first images of its new full-sized, seven-seat Discovery SUV.

The fifth-generation SUV will make landfall at the 2016 Paris Motor Show on Sept 28, packing more style and becoming more upscale as it approaches the premium levels of the Range Rovers, sharing the same monocoque as its higher-end siblings. It will continue to retain its family DNA as an effective offroader.

The new Discovery is expected to be considerably lighter and may even feature a 2.0-litre turbodiesel engine as seen in the Jaguar F-PACE along with a range of petrol engines and other diesel engine options. A hybrid could show up later.

The 2014 Discovery Vision Concept has inspired its design, which will see a revamped interior.

“The new Discovery redefines the large SUV. Land Rover’s design and engineering teams have revolutionised the Discovery DNA to create a highly desirable, extremely versatile and hugely capable premium SUV,” said Land Rover chief design officer Gerry McGovern.

Land Rover has sold over 1.2 million Discovery SUVs since it went on sale 27 years ago, and remains popular to this day.
