RAWANG: Perodua marked the millionth production of the Myvi today, making it the most produced model under the Perodua brand.

The millionth Myvi, a blue unit, was rolled off the production line here over the weekend,

To celebrate the occasion, Perodua had a special “line-off” ceremony at its plant here in Sungai Choh, which was opened by Perodua Auto Corporation Sdn Bhd president Masanori Takahashi and its vice president, Datuk Zainal Abidin Ahmad.

The Myvi was introduced in May 2005 and was Malaysia’s number one car model until the end of 2014. The model continues to be among the top bestselling models in the country.

“The Myvi has set a new standard for us in terms of products offerings as well as customer expectations and it is our benchmark for all our future models,” said Perodua president and CEO Datuk Aminar Rashid Salleh.

In terms of exports, the Myvi has been sold in six countries since 2006, namely Mauritius, Brunei, Singapore, Britain, Fiji and Nepal under the Perodua brand;

However, the Myvi’s biggest export market is Indonesia under the Daihatsu Sirion brand with nearly 31,000 vehicles sold since 2007. In total, Perodua has been exporting 35,400 Myvi/Sirion models since 2006.

“Based on our calculations – all our models, the Myvi, Alza, Axia and Bezza retain their spot as the most preferred vehicles in their respective segments,” said Aminar.

“We estimate the total industry volume for the first 5 months of the year to be 233,700 units. Based on this number, our market share for the year so far is at 35%,” Aminar said.

“We are cautiously optimistic of achieving our 202,000 sales target for this year despite the continued tough and challenging market condition.”
