Fully-electric BMW iX3 begins production
By RIZAL JOHAN | 05 October 2020MUNICH: The first fully-electric iX3 has left the production line at the BMW Brilliance Automotive joint venture (BBA) in Shenyang, China.
The workforce at the BBA Plant Dadong in Shenyang already celebrated the successful start of production on Sept 29.
As well as intelligent manufacturing and state-of-the-art technologies, the BBA production facility in Shenyang is also notable for its quality management system.
BMW said the iX3 is built according to a "zero defect concept".
It said BBA conducts rigorous testing of everything from the battery to the finished car. Under the zero defect regime, the car is subjected to 128 mechanical tests and 994 software functionality tests to ensure the high quality of high-voltage batteries throughout the entire lifecycle.
A total of 140 functional tests check every aspect of the vehicle during acceleration, in particular road conditions and on rocky roads.
BBA produces the iX3 on the same line as the conventional X3 for efficiency and flexibility in production.
