Skoda's Enyaq electric SUV gets coupé upgrade
By DPA | 03 February 2022BERLIN: A year after the launch of the Enyaq, Skoda is now bringing out its electric SUV as a coupé with more than just cosmetic changes.
The Czech VW subsidiary says the SUV with its steeply sloping roof will go on sale in the second quarter of 2022 and with a sizeable range of 545km.
The company has not yet named prices, but hinted at a premium of around 4,000 euros compared with the conventional Enyaq.
Around half of this, however, would be compensated for by the standard equipment, which had been expanded to include a panoramic roof, for example.
You might not see major differences from the front, but the two body variants of the Enyaq differ significantly towards the rear because the roofline drops sharply and tapers off in the coupe.
While this hardly changes the headroom for the rear seat passengers, the boot is shrinking by 15 litres to a total of 570 litres.
In return, however, the air resistance is reduced, which increases the range, and Skoda says you'll be able to keep going for another 35km compared to other Enyaq versions.
There is also a difference when you look under the bonnet and from the launch, the coupe is also available as the Enyag RS (for a price of around 57,000 euros) with a more powerful motor, which will not be offered in the hatchback until the second half of 2022.
In this version, the two electric motors together come to 220 kW and 300hp, respectively, and the top speed is raised from 160kph to 180kph for the first time.
Alternatively, however, Skoda says the car will be available with one electric motor and 180hp or 204hp, as well as with two motors and a total output of 265hp.
According to Skoda, the batteries have a capacity of around 60 or 80 kilowatt hours, depending on the model variant, and enable ranges of up to 545km.
With the new body variant, there is also an update for the software. This is intended to make navigation smarter and charging faster: Thanks to increased voltage and a new control system, the Enyaq will be able to jump from a battery level of 10 to 80 per cent in 29 minutes instead of 36 minutes, Skoda promises.
