'Smoking' Proton X90 caused by grounding to body issue
By CARSIFU | 13 September 2023SUBANG JAYA: Proton and its partner Geely's investigation into a "smoking" X90 incident last month has concluded the matter was caused by the grounding connection to the body of the vehicle.
They said the 48V mild hybrid battery in the SUV was not the root cause of the incident.
In a statement posted on Proton Cars Facebook, the national carmaker said: "This (grounding connection) can cause overheating in the connecting area when a continuous large current passes through it and can result in a thermal incident due to its proximity to the soundproofing material.
"As a safety measure, all Proton X90 owners will be contacted individually by Proton 3S/4S dealers to bring their vehicles for inspection and if required, remedial action will be taken by the service centre to eliminate any thermal risk."
Proton also said the company and its vendors have taken countermeasures by enhancing the supplier process control and incoming inspections on the X90’s production line.
Owners can also call the nearest 3S/4S service centre for an appointment or contact PROTON’s helpline at 1-800-88-8398 for more information.
