KUALA LUMPUR: The open-topped 2024 Maserati MC20 Cielo has arrived, and is priced from RM1.228 million before local duties and taxes, customisation options, and insurance.

The price includes three years of standard warranty coverage with no mileage restriction plus a free maintenance programme of three years/60,000km whichever comes first (inclusive of Maserati Premium Service Plus of three years/60,000km).

In a statement, Naza Italia said the company delivered the first Maserati Spyder MC20 Cielo order in Malaysia today.

The spyder is developed at the Maserati Innovation Lab and produced at the plant on Viale Ciro Menotti, Modena, as is the coupé version.

It is powered by a Maserati Nettuno V6 3.0-litre twin turbo engine that packs 630hp at 7,500rpm and peak torque of 730Nm at 3,000 to 5,500rpm mated to a 8-speed dual-clutch transmission.

MC stands for Maserati Corse (Racing); 20 refers to 2020, the year that began the brand’s new era; Cielo (sky) highlights that it is devoted to open air driving pleasure.

Its electrochromic (smart glass) hardtop can instantly be transformed from clear to opaque at the touch of a button on the central screen, courtesy of Advanced Polymer-Dispersed Liquid Crystal (PDLC) technology.

The retractable glass roof is also best-in-class for thermal insulation and its speed of opening and closing in just 12 seconds.

Meanwhile, the butterfly doors open up sensationally (like wings unfolding upward), and also provide much easier access into and out of the cabin.

The MC20 Cielo's launch version features a new three-layer metallic colour known as Acquamarina, available as part of the Maserati Fuoriserie customisation programme.

The base is a pastel grey inspired by racing, reminiscent of the MC20’s sporty DNA, accompanied by an iridescent aquamarine mica that enlivens the hue.

Besides the parking sensors, rear-view camera and blind spot monitoring included in the MC20 since the 2022 model year, the new spyder introduces autonomous emergency brake, traffic sign information and a new 360-degree camera.

The MC20 Cielo can also be fitted with an optional High Premium Sonus Faber audio system.

The MC20 Coupé system, an EISA award-winning in-vehicle audio system, was optimised to fit the unique acoustic and positioning needs of the spyder’s cabin, situating the system’s 12 speakers to result in the natural sound that distinguishes Sonus Faber audio systems.

The in-car experience is managed from the Maserati Intelligent Assistant (MIA) Multimedia system, and from Maserati Connect.

The MC20 Cielo weighs just 65kg more than the coupé.

As well as its outstanding weight-to-power ratio, the carbon fibre chassis (on the coupé, spyder and the future electric version) also provides torsional rigidity, and is said to offer outstanding handling on the road and track.
