2025 Mercedes-Benz G 580: RM959K and RM999K (Edition One)

KUALA LUMPUR: Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has debuted the all-electric G 580 with EQ Technology, which offers unique driving characteristics both on and off road.

From June 27 - 29, at Raintree Plaza, The Exchange TRX, visitors can witness the groundbreaking capabilities of the all electric G-Class, including its ability to conquer a 40-degree climb and perform a full 720-degree G-TURN.

It is priced from RM958,888 and RM998,888 (for Edition One) for Peninsular Malaysia.

Prices are on the road, without insurance and include a wallbox with installation.

Mercedes-Benz Malaysia CEO and president Amanda Zhang said, “The new electric G-Class reimagines an icon while staying true to the values that define our brand."

The Edition One grade is offered in three Manufaktur paint finishes: south sea blue magno, opalite white magno, and classic grey solid.

The outer protective moulding has an insert with a blue trim strip.

The brake callipers are also in blue and feature Mercedes-Benz lettering at the front.

With the Manufaktur range, owners can personalise their G-Class.

The two-tone leather interior in Manufaktur Catalan beige/black is available for the first time.

In addition, a grab handle with “Manufaktur” lettering and trim element is available in combination with Manufaktur leather.

Almost the entire interior is then covered in nappa leather.

The Edition One also includes Manufaktur grab handles in leather.

The blue details of the exterior are reflected in the interior of the Edition One in the form of blue carbon-fibre trim elements and AMG floor mats in black with contrasting blue topstitching.

With four individually controlled electric motors, the electric G-Class is the first mass-produced Mercedes-Benz vehicle with individual-wheel drive.

Maximum output is 432kW (587hp) while total torque is 1,164Nm.

Torque is always delivered exactly where the electric G-Class needs traction.

The sprint from 0 to 100kph is done in 4.7 seconds, onwards to a top speed that's limited to 180kph.

It has a 116kWh (usable capacity) battery housed in a torsion-resistant casing, and can go up to 473km according to WLTP.

AC charging time (0% - 100% state of charge or SOC, at up to 11kW) is 12 hours while DC fast charging (10% - 80% SOC, at up to 200kW) is around 32 minutes.

According to Mercedes-Benz, in some aspects, the new electric G-Class even surpasses the conventionally powered models – in fording depth, for example.

Off-road capabilities include up to 100% gradeability on suitable surfaces, ground clearance between the axles of at least 250mm, maximum fording depth of 850mm for water and mud, and stable driving on sideward slopes of up to 35 degrees.

The electric G-Class has the same adaptive adjustable damping used in the conventionally powered variants, and this compensates for uneven ground better than passive dampers.

Meanwhile, with the G-Turn, drivers can turn the electric G-Class almost on the spot.

The vehicle performs up to two complete vehicle turns in the desired direction on unpaved or loose surfaces.

This not only looks spectacular but can also be helpful when driving off-road – for example, if an obstacle ahead makes it impossible to continue forward.

The four independently driven wheels can rotate the vehicle to the left or right as required.

To do this, the wheels on the right and left sides of the vehicle turn in opposite directions.

To start the function, the vehicle must be stationary on a level surface with the doors closed, the front wheels in the straight-ahead position and the brake pedal depressed.

In addition, the “D” transmission setting must be engaged, the “Rock” driving programme selected, and the Low Range off-road gear reduction switched on.

Only then can drivers activate the function using the corresponding button on the off-road control unit.

They can select the desired direction of rotation by pulling and holding the left or right steering wheel shift paddle.

To start the G-Turn, they must then hold the steering wheel, release the brake pedal, and press the accelerator pedal.

After two complete vehicle turns, G-Turn is automatically cancelled.

Drivers can also cancel the function manually at any time by releasing the steering wheel shift paddle or the accelerator pedal.

Also, G-Steering can significantly reduce the turning circle when driving off-road or on loose surfaces.

This is achieved through targeted control of the drive torque at the individually driven wheels.

This function is active up to a speed of 25kph.

An intelligent off-road crawl function also provides drivers with additional support when driving off-road.

It ensures ideal propulsion even on loose surfaces, maintaining a pre-set speed – and thus functions like cruise control for off-road driving.

The electric G-Class also comes with G-Roar, which brings the signature AMG roar as an acoustic accompaniment when accelerating.

Meanwhile, in conjunction with the 360-degree camera, the “transparent bonnet” function enables a virtual view under the front of the vehicle.

The function also helps to better assess crests, embankments, and hollows if they are no longer visible through the windscreen because the angle is too steep.

Exterior highlights include the classic round headlights and black-panel radiator grille.

The electric G-Class rolls on 20-inch AMG 10-spoke light-alloy wheels.

Adaptive Multibeam LED headlights with intelligent lighting functions illuminate the road according to the situation.

As for the interior, highlights include ambient lighting, Burmester 3D surround sound system, and MBUX high-end rear seat entertainment system.

The Comfort package features temperature-controlled cup holders, Keyless-Go, and a wireless charging system for mobile devices.

The MBUX infotainment system includes a 12.3-inch driver and media display with touch controls, and Android Auto or Apple CarPlay connectivity.

Advanced assistance and safety systems include Active Distance Assist Distronic, Active Steering Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist, Parking package with 360-degree camera, and Pre-Safe.
