STUTTGART: Mercedes-Benz has updated the S-Class for the 2025 model year with enhanced automated driving capabilities, upgraded infotainment, expanded customisation options, and a new special edition.
These updates seek to maintain the S-Class's leading position in the luxury segment.
The key change is the improved Drive Pilot system, which now allows conditionally automated driving at speeds of up to 95kph on selected German highways, up from the previous 60kph limit.

This upgrade enables customers to use the system more frequently, even in normal traffic flow, where the car can autonomously follow a vehicle in the right-hand lane.
When activated, Drive Pilot permits drivers to legally engage in non-driving activities such as reading, working, or watching videos.
The system prioritises safety through a redundant architecture covering key components like steering, braking, and electrical systems, while over 35 sensors — including LiDAR, cameras, radar, and ultrasonic sensors — ensure precise environmental monitoring.
A unique positioning system using detailed digital maps ensures accurate vehicle placement.

To increase transparency for other road users, Mercedes-Benz is testing turquoise indicator lights to signal the system’s operational status.
The Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) infotainment system has also been upgraded with new digital features delivered via over-the-air updates.
The AI-powered voice assistant now includes ChatGPT through Microsoft Azure OpenAI Service, enabling more natural, context-aware conversations and access to up-to-date information via Microsoft Bing.
Navigation benefits from Google’s satellite view for improved visual guidance, especially in complex environments.

On top of that, the Entertainment Package Plus, now available via the Mercedes-Benz Store, gives users access to streaming services such as YouTube and Sony Pictures Entertainment’s RIDEVU, the latter offering rear passengers an in-car cinematic experience.
Personalisation is expanded with the brand's Manufaktur programme, offering over 50 new exterior paint colours and 25 additional interior options.
Customers can now select from an increased range of handcrafted materials, leather combinations, and wood inlays.
The 2025 S-Class range also includes a new Edition model featuring AMG Line and Night Package styling.

It is offered in five exclusive paint finishes, including Manufaktur night black magno, and features dark shadow gloss door handles and illuminated door sills.
Inside, the model offers Nappa leather upholstery in three colour options, a head-up display, Burmester 3D Surround Sound, 20-inch AMG alloy wheels, and Digital Light with projection capabilities. For the first time, a digital Edition emblem is embedded within the MBUX system.
Powertrain options remain unchanged. The current S-Class is available with a range of turbocharged 3.0-litre six-cylinder engines, including petrol mild hybrids (EQ Boost), diesel mild hybrids, and a plug-in hybrid. Power outputs range from 282hp to 503hp.
The 2025 updates are accompanied by the continuation of the "Because it's Mercedes-Benz" brand campaign, starring tennis legend Roger Federer.
The campaign aims to showcase the craftsmanship and innovation behind the S-Class, with visuals highlighting the expanded Manufaktur programme and its handcrafted details.
