2026 Proton X50: More power at 181PS/290Nm, better features


SHAH ALAM: The refreshed 2026 Proton X50 gets updates such as new exterior and interior styling, upgraded ADAS (advanced driver assistance system) level 2 features, better infotainment with a 14.6-inch screen, and for the first time, Malay voice recognition.

There's also significantly more muscle here, with a new i-GT 1.5-litre TD engine mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, producing 133kW (181PS) of power and 290Nm of torque.

This is compared against the 2025 edition's TGDI Flagship variant with 130kW (177PS) of power and 255Nm of torque.

The refreshed X50 can rocket from 0 to 100kph in just 7.6 seconds — outpacing the 2025 edition by 0.3 seconds.

Proton says it delivers 4.7% boost in fuel efficiency, and sets a new benchmark for performance and economy in its class.

The B-segment SUV (sport utility vehicle) is offered in three variants, namely Executive, Premium, and Flagship.

The refreshed exterior features a new front grille and bumper, a sportier rear spoiler, quad exhaust tailpipes, dual-tone colour scheme, and a new textured alloy wheels.

The vehicle’s interior has also been significantly upgraded to deliver a more premium, driver-centric experience including soft-touch materials, a floating floor console, luxury car inspired column-mounted shifters and 72-colour rhythmic ambient light.

Customers can choose from four existing colours, Snow White, Passion Red, Jet Grey, Armour Silver, and a striking new addition, Teal Bayou Green.

A 14.6-inch infotainment display supports both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, now enhanced with voice recognition in Malay.

Meanhile, the latest Proton Link 2.0 app further enhances convenience, offering remote engine and air-conditioning activation, real-time vehicle status updates, and service appointment scheduling – all accessible via mobile device.

Safety features included rear side radar system (RSRS), improved auto park assist (APA) system and 360-degree HD camera plus 180-degree undercarriage transparent view.

The X50 comes with a 5-star Asean NCAP safety rating.
