TOKYO: The 2027 updated Lexus NX offers an all-new hybrid system, complemented by refreshed exterior and interior designs.
A new "Sensory Concierge" uses personalised lighting and fragrance in the cabin.
Sensory Concierge is said to deliver a uniquely Lexus experience based on the concept of "Performing Arts."
By coordinating illumination, music, climate control, seat temperature, and fragrance across three modes, the system tailors the cabin environment to occupants' moods.
Due to be introduced globally at end-2026, variants include the 300h (2.0-litre FWD or front wheel drive), 350h (2.5-litre FWD or AWD - all wheel drive) and 450h+ PHEV or plug-in hybrid (2.5-litre AWD).
The NX 450h+ has a newly developed battery that delivers an 8% increase in output and a 30% increase in capacity, significantly extending EV (electric vehicle) driving range.
Also, support for DC fast charging substantially reduces charging time.
The new NX's performance was rigorously honed on the demanding test courses at Toyota Technical Centre Shimoyama (TTC-S), Lexus' new vehicle development centre.
Development also continued at Germany's Nürburgring, the inspiration behind TTC-S and home to even more demanding road conditions.
Meanwhile, a wide, low stance creates simple, clean proportions, while the integration of the headlamps, cornering lamps, and other functional elements into the grill reinforces the vehicle's sporty character.
The design has been updated with a more modern look, while a mesh grill enhances aerodynamic and cooling performance.
The rear combination lamps feature Lexus' first Double L Signature.
The illuminated double L-shaped elements at each end, together with the illuminated Lexus logo, reinforce the vehicle's wide, low stance.
The instrument panel horizontally aligns the 12.3-inch digital meter and 14-inch navigation/multimedia display to minimise eye movement.
On F Sport models, the exterior features F Sport exclusive front under spoilers, side pontoons, and rear corner devices.
Piano Black finishes on the roof side rails, roof spoiler, and rocker panels create a more cohesive, sporty appearance.
Exclusive lightweight, high-rigidity 20-inch aluminum wheels and red brake calipers further distinguish the F Sport model.
Also, the new NX adopts the latest Lexus Safety System+.
Enhanced object detection with a wider field of view and extended detection range expands the system's ability to help mitigate a broader range of collision scenarios.
Expanded operating capabilities and sensor coverage provide continuous driver support, even in complex environments such as urban roads, helping to reduce driver workload.
In addition, clearer visualisation of the vehicle's surroundings on the meter display further contributes to safer, more confident driving.
Radar Cruise Control (with All-Speed Following Function) has been enhanced to initiate deceleration earlier when a preceding vehicle slows or another vehicle cuts in.
Lane Change Assist (LCA) has been refined with improved activation and optimised lane-change timing to support easier, smoother lane changes.
For intersection cross-traffic scenarios, the Pre-Collision System (PCS) expands the operating speed range for warnings and automatic braking, helping avoid collisions or reduce collision damage across a wider range of vehicle speeds.
The Driver Emergency Response System now includes a new feature that brings the vehicle to a stop on the shoulder when activated while driving on highways and motorways.
The Blind Spot Monitor (BSM) can now detect bicycles and motorcycles traveling alongside the vehicle and alert the driver, helping prevent accidents.
