3,000 parking bays for motorcycles near Johor-Singapore checkpoint

JOHOR BARU: Johor Baru City Council (MBJB) has allocated RM400,000 to provide parking spaces for two-wheeled vehicles at Bangunan Sultan Iskandar (BSI).

Johor housing and local government committee chairman Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor said MBJB was allocating the funds to provide 2,000 motorcycle parking bays as well as 1,000 bays for bicycles and escooters at BSI.

He also said that SWM Environment Sdn Bhd was carrying out cleaning works at the bridge, pedestrian lane and bus bay at BSI.

He said MBJB, together with SWM and Johor Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Corporation (SWCorp), would be monitoring the cleanliness of BSI.

“The city council will also be placing its anti-litter squad at BSI as part of its enforcement action against littering and related offences in the premises.

“The state government places great emphasis on infrastructure, facilities and cleanliness,” he said after visiting the pedestrian bridge that links BSI and R&F Mall.

It was reported in July that travellers entering Singapore via BSI Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) Complex would soon have a proper place to park their bicycles and escooters.

Johor Baru mayor Datuk Mohd Noorazam Osman had said that bicycle and escooter users were parking their two-wheelers in an area near a pedestrian bridge linking BSI and R&F Mall.

“The bridge is not a suitable place to park bicycles and escooters.

“We have identified a suitable place within BSI, which is near the bus area, for people to park.

“Based on our study, the location has ample space and can accommodate many bicycles and escooters,” he was quoted as saying.
