GEORGE TOWN: A total of 47 vehicles driven by foreigners without proper documentation have been seized by the Road Transport Department (JPJ) in a span of two hours.

The enforcement conducted under Ops PeWA saw a total 44 motorcycles, two private cars and a lorry seized near Seberang Jaya between 7am to 9am on Tuesday.

"The focused enforcement aims at ensuring foreign workers possess driving licences, personal identification and valid documents when driving here.

"Stern action was taken against them for flouting the law in the state.

"Those detained are 20 Rohingyas who are UNHCR card holders, nine Bangladeshis, seven Indonesians, four Vietnamese, three Indian, two Myanmar, a Nepalese and a Cambodian.

"Violations of driving without a licence are the most detected besides expired road tax, without insurance and technical faults.

"Checks of vehicles also found some locals renting their private vehicles to be used by foreigners on a monthly basis.

"All vehicles have been seized under Section 64(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987," said the department in its JPJ Pulau Pinang official page.
