ACO Tech and Deutsche Telekom IoT: Exploring connected car opportunities

KUALA LUMPUR: A collaboration to explore international connected vehicle opportunities in Europe and the Asia-Pacific region is in motion, following a memorandum of collaboration (MoC) inked by ACO Tech and Deutsche Telekom IoT GmbH, part of Deutsche Telekom Group.

The collaboration brings together ACO Tech’s automotive technology expertise and Deutsche Telekom IoT GmbH’s international IoT connectivity capabilities to explore benefits for automotive manufacturers and their customers.

ACO Tech Sdn Bhd was established in 2019 as a joint venture between Proton, Ecarx and Altel Communications.

As one of the pioneering smart mobility providers in Southeast Asia, ACO Tech oversees a network of over 500,000 active connected vehicles – one of the largest networks of connected vehicles in the region.

Meanwhile, Deutsche Telekom IoT provides secure, reliable and scalable IoT connectivity solutions worldwide.

With an extensive global network of more than 600 roaming partners across 188 destinations, Deutsche Telekom IoT enables automotive manufacturers and mobility providers to stay connected across international markets.

Both companies said this potential cooperation could help automotive manufacturers simplify cross border connectivity planning and support the development of connected vehicle services across international markets, with the potential to enable more consistent digital experiences for drivers.

As an initial area for evaluation, the cooperation may include potential connectivity opportunities involving Geely, alongside other automotive customers in Europe and the Asia-Pacific region.

The MoC was signed by Deutsche Telekom IoT chief commercial officer Benjamin Bastians and ACO Tech CEO Dr Li Pu.

“Connectivity is becoming an increasingly important part of the modern driving experience. We look forward to exploring how the unique strengths of ACO Tech and Deutsche Telekom IoT can complement one another, broaden our market reach and unlock new possibilities for connected mobility across international markets,” said Li.

“As automotive manufacturers expand into new markets, they need connectivity that can support vehicles across different countries and networks. By exploring how our international IoT connectivity and connected-car services can complement ACO Tech’s automotive technology solutions, we aim to help manufacturers simplify cross-border connectivity planning and build a foundation for scalable digital experiences for drivers,” said Bastians.
