Adient in Malaysia aims to be S-E-Asian hub for automotive seating foam


KUALA LUMPUR: Automotive seating company Adient Automotive Seating Sdn Bhd has started exporting headrests to Thailand and Indonesia from its foam plant in Alor Gajah, Malacca.

The new RM10mil plant is equipped with state-of-the-art foam manufacturing technology to serve the local and regional markets.

Adient Automotive Seating managing director A.J. Dabydin said the new plant would drive parts localisation, develop local suppliers, and create more job opportunities and export revenues.

Adient Automotive Seating is a subsidiary of US-based Adient Plc. It was set up in 1983 in Malaysia.

Adient's plant in Alor Gajar employs eco-friendly processes in its operations. It uses a rainwater harvesting system to reduce dependency on town water and installation of solar panels to produce electricity that powers various pieces of equipment.

The factory is also equipped with five-star power rated and low carbon emission equipment, has LED lighting installed across the entire plant, and manages risk through environmental management systems and appropriate certification such as ISO14001.

Its use of the advanced Hydra Manufacturing System is a first in Malaysia. Through the system, the plant is able to collect vast amount of production data from various equipment in real time onsite and remotely. Workers are able to use visual analytics to improve products, reduce defects and quickly identify root causes of potential issues from heat maps.
