Age limit for taxis and ehailing vehicles extended to 15 years

PETALING JAYA: The age limit for taxis and ehailing vehicles has been extended to 15 years from today.

The Land Public Transport Agency (Apad) said the extension was in line with the Transport Ministry's objective to improve the country's transport system.

The agency said in a statement the age limit extension was applicable to both classes of vehicles in Peninsular Malaysia and to ehailing vehicles in Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan, upon compliance with certain conditions.

First, to qualify for the extension, the vehicle must have reached the previous maximum age limit of 10 years on or after Jan 1.

Second, all vehicles seeking an extension must comply with and pass mandatory periodic inspections by Puspakom.

"The vehicles must also comply with other operating conditions to ensure (a certain) level of vehicle safety, user comfort and industry image," the statement added.

Apad said it hoped the extension would help taxi and ehailing operators improve the quality of their services to become a trusted transportation mode of choice by the people.

For more information on the conditions for the extension of the vehicle age limit, visit www.apad.gov.my or the nearest Apad office.

Applicants in Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan are advised to liaise directly with the Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board of Sabah or Sarawak.
