All-new Lexus LX world premiere set for Oct 14

TOKYO: Lexus will unveil the all-new LX in a digital world premiere on Oct 14 at 1:30pm JST (12.30am in Malaysia).

At the same time, ground events related to the launch would be happening in Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates, which are key markets for the luxury SUV.

Lexus released a terse statement and this teaser photo, showing the back end of the new LX having a full length LED light bar, similar to what the new NX that was announced earlier this year.

An accompanying video clip shows the new LX hamming it up in a desert environment, with glimpses of its side profile.

The LX600 badge suggests this is the range topper, and word out there is that the LX600 could most likely use either the 409hp 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 from the Toyota Land Cruiser 300 or a new 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine.

These are the most plausible engine options rather than a 6.0-litre mill in an age where engine downsizing and an obsession with keeping emissions down are the norm.

Lexus will still sell a diesel version of the luxobarge in select markets and it will probably use a new 3.3-litre twin-turbo diesel engine.

As to whether there will be a hybrid LX, Lexus is not telling yet.
