KUALA LUMPUR: Perodua has started taking bookings for its all-new Axia hatchback expected to be launched in the middle of next month with prices ranging from RM38,600 and RM49,500.

The new generation model comes with the most advanced digital and safety features in its price class and promises a higher level of fuel efficiency of 27.4km per litre of fuel under the new Malaysian driving cycle mode.

The new model delivers an efficiency of 23.3km per litre if measured under the New European Driving Cycle while the older Axia model returns 21.6km per litre.

Powering the hatchback is a 1.0-litre engine with dual mode continuously variable transmission.

The new Axia is also equipped with Perodua's Smart Drive Assist which is the first for an entry level car.

It will be available in four variants of G, X, SE and AV, and five colours of Granite Grey, Lava Red, Glittering Silver, Ivory White and Coral Blue (new introduction).

Fitted across all variants are Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and traction control, ABS with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), Hill Start Assist and traction control.

For the SE and AV variants, they get power-mode, LED day light running lamp (DRL), solar and security film and semi-bucket type with detachable
headrest.

The top-of-the-line AV variant comes with its exclusive features such as a 7-inch TFT (Thin-Film transistor) multi info display, a 9-inch display audio and two-tone semi-leather seats and six airbags.

Perodua president and chief executive officer Datuk Seri Zainal Abidin Ahmad said the all-new Axia is the latest model under the Perodua Smart Build (PSB) that means the vehicle is part of a global production and component chain.

“The end result is a model that offers a wide range of selection for entry level car buyers and we believe that the All-New Perodua Axia offers the best value in its segment,” he said.

He also said the production of the previous generation Axia has ended this month and those who booked the older model could switch to the new generation vehicle.

Zainal said Perodua had worked hard to maintain the prices of its vehicles despite rising costs and inflation.

"The new Axia was priced higher as the vehicle has a larger body and higher levels of features and safety enhancements than previously," he said.
