All-new Škoda compact SUV for the Indian market coming
By CARSIFU | 29 February 2024PRAGUE: Škoda Auto India is set to introduce a new sub 4-metre SUV, marking its entry into India's compact segment and aiming to attract new customer groups.
Capitalising on India's excise benefits for vehicles under 4 metres, Škoda plans to pass these savings onto consumers.
To engage potential customers, Škoda has launched the #NameYourSkoda campaign, inviting the public to suggest names for this upcoming SUV, with the final name to be announced later in the year.
The SUV will expand Škoda's locally developed and manufactured portfolio, being the third product on the MQB-A0-IN platform—a collaboration between Indian and Czech Republic teams tailored for the Indian market.
This platform supports high localisation, affordability, and compliance with India's rigorous safety and emissions standards, boasting efficient engines and advanced safety features.
Notably, previous models on this platform, Kushaq and Slavia, have achieved a 5-star Global NCAP rating for both adult and child occupants, a testament to their safety credentials.
Škoda's engagement in the Indian market is a critical component of its Next Level Strategy, aiming to sell 100,000 vehicles annually by 2026, become the leading European brand by 2030, and secure a five percent market share for Volkswagen Group brands in India.
This initiative is part of Škoda's broader internationalisation strategy, emphasising the export of Indian-manufactured vehicles to Asean and Middle Eastern markets.
