SERI KEMBANGAN: Angka-Tan Motor Sdn Bhd has launched the locally assembled Foton Aumark S Euro 5 AMT, the first Chinese-brand light-duty truck in Malaysia equipped with an automated manual transmission (AMT).
The AMT setup offers a more economical alternative to fully automatic gearboxes in terms of purchasing and maintenance costs.
Targeted at urban logistics and last-mile delivery operations, the new truck is positioned as a solution for smoother driving, reduced driver fatigue and improved fuel efficiency in congested city conditions.

Power comes from a Euro 5-compliant Cummins ISF 3.8-litre four-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine producing 154PS at 2,600rpm and 500Nm of torque from 1,200rpm to 1,900rpm.
The engine is paired with a ZF six-speed AMT gearbox driving the rear wheels.
According to Angka-Tan Motor general manager, head of sales, Aaron Chai, the shift towards Euro 5 engines and AMT transmissions was made to meet Malaysian emissions regulations while improving operational efficiency.
The Aumark S measures 6,930mm long, 2,060mm wide and 2,250mm tall, with a 3,800mm wheelbase.

Depending on configuration, gross vehicle weight ranges from 7,500kg to 9,900kg.
Safety systems include Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Anti-Slip Regulation and Hill Start Assist, while the cab structure complies with ECE R29 safety standards.
Angka-Tan Motor said the platform has undergone more than 3,000,000km of durability testing in real-world operating conditions.
Warisan TC Holdings Bhd chief executive officer James Tan said the new truck represents the company's commitment to innovation and to delivering practical solutions that support businesses across the logistics and transportation ecosystem.
"Angka-Tan Motor also aims to strengthen its position in the commercial vehicle market, particularly within the light commercial vehicle segment. Our ambition is clear — to become a key player in the light commercial vehicle segment by capturing a significant market share and delivering products that meet the demands of modern businesses," he said.

The company’s light-duty truck business remains largely fleet-driven, with around 80% of sales going to fleet operators and corporate customers rather than private buyers.
He added that safety remains a major priority among transport authorities and large fleet operators in Malaysia.
Foton Malaysia is currently recording monthly bookings of around 100 to 120 units, with demand outpacing supply as the company works to expand production capacity.
The launch follows the introduction of the Foton Auman R Euro 5 AMT in the heavy-duty segment last year, further expanding Foton’s AMT-equipped commercial vehicle range in Malaysia.
Angka-Tan Motor also acknowledged increasing competition from other Chinese commercial vehicle brands entering Malaysia as local acceptance towards Chinese brands continues to grow.
The company expects AMT adoption to increase over time as operators become more familiar with the technology’s long-term operational and cost benefits.

Priced at RM128,800, the Aumark S Euro 5 AMT comes with a six-year or 300,000km warranty.
All Foton commercial vehicles sold in Malaysia are supported by the Foton Total Care aftersales programme under the Tan Chong Group service network, which includes nationwide servicing, genuine parts access, driver training, one-stop repair and insurance services, as well as 24-hour Res-Q emergency assistance.
The truck is on display at Booth PS01, alongside side a bus based on the Aumark S chassis, at the Mines International Exhibition & Convention Centre, until May 16. - Zachary Ho
