Android Auto adds flexible split screen for easier playback control
By DPA | 10 January 2023LAS VEGAS: Google has given Android Auto - the software that brings the features of an Android device onto your dashboard's infotainment system - a new user interface and features, including a split screen.
The new sidebar to the right of the navigation screen can display items such as a media player that offers a progress bar for easily skipping forward or back in podcasts, audiobooks and songs.
The new layout is aimed at coping with the various screen sizes and formats of different car models. In terms of controls, Google says it's now putting quick access buttons for navigation, playback, messaging and making phone calls front and centre.
Other new features include more help from Google Assistant. For example, short reply suggestions to messages are displayed and you just have to tap to send them. It's also easier to quickly share your expected arrival time and set reminders for missed calls.
Announcing the update, Google also promises that in the near future people with the latest Pixel and Samsung smartphones will be able to make WhatsApp calls using Android Auto.
