Aston Martin DB11 gets a fiery V8

LONDON: The Aston Martin DB11 V8 has the same handsome, thrusting looks as its V12 sibling, but under the bonnet nestles a V8 engine which is no less noble for being four cylinders poorer.

The twin-turbo motor was developed by AMG, the in-house tuning firm owned by Mercedes-Benz, and it packs a real punch, as the stats show.

The 510 horsepower from the engine is enough to send the V8 Aston charging to 301 kilometres per hour, and the classic sprint from zero to 100km/h is accomplished in a mere four seconds.

It does not have all the panache of the 12-pot model, but remember - this is an "entry-level" Aston for newcomers to the brand.

Owners can park one of these two-by-two sports tourers in the drive from October, as long as they are willing to part with 184,000 euros (RM916,000). The V12 costs around US$17,500 (RM74,000)more to buy.

Eagle-eyed Aston fans will spot a few subtle visual features which serve to differentiate the two versions of this grand tourer.

The V8 gets as an exclusive alloy wheel finish, dark headlamp bezels, and the bonnet has two air vents instead of four.

Aston claims the V8 will return a fuel consumption of 9.9 litres per 100km, but that will not apply to town driving or high-speed sessions on the highway.
