INGOLSTADT: The e-tron SUV and its coupe-like sister model, the e-tron Sportback, are currently rolling off the Audi production line in purely electric form.

In the second quarter of 2021, they will be joined by a new flagship electric sedan with more muscle.

Technically closely related to the Porsche Taycan, but visually clearly different and produced in-house, the car will be available in two versions as the e-tron GT and the RS e-tron GT, Audi has announced.

Prices in Europe start at €99,800 and €138,200, the manufacturer says.

The four-door car is characterised by flowing lines and a length of almost 5 metres, housing two electric motors that together produce 476hp or 598hp. In the following months, 530hp will also be an option in the basic model and 646hp in the RS.

These engines accelerate the Gran Turismo, which weighs well over two tonnes, from a standstill to 100kph in 3.3 seconds, while top speeds are put at 245 and 250kph respectively.

The electric motors are powered by a rechargeable battery, which should enable a maximum WLTP range of 488km for both versions.

Recharging with a maximum of 270kW, you can hit 80 per cent of battery in 23 minutes, under ideal conditions, according to Audi. Charging at this rate, the e-tron GT can also draw enough power for 100km in just five minutes.

This new ride also comes with a new ambience in the interior, bringing large displays and sparse switches, even if it all looks somewhat less futuristic than in its Taycan twin.

With a wheelbase of 2.90 metres, it should also offer ample space for passengers. In addition to the 405-litre luggage compartment in the rear, there is a second storage compartment in the front that holds a further 81 litres.
