Auto China 2026: Omoda I Jaecoo

BEIJING: Omoda I Jaecoo took centrestage within the Chery Automobile's Group lineup, unveiling two key SUV models that underline its push towards design-led, tech-focused mobility.

Headlining the showcase was the new Omoda 4, a compact SUV aimed at younger, urban buyers.

Adopting a more assertive “Cyber Mecha” design language, the model evolves the brand’s “art in motion” philosophy with sharper lines and a more futuristic stance.

Built on a flexible platform, the Omoda 4 will be offered with three powertrain options globally: a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine, a self-charging SHS-H hybrid, and a fully electric variant.

This multi-energy approach allows the model to cater to a wide range of markets, reflecting differing rates of electrification globally.

Inside, the focus is firmly on digital integration.

The cabin features a connected, user-centric layout with integrated displays, intuitive controls and a suite of advanced driver assistance systems, all designed to enhance everyday usability for tech-savvy drivers.

Flagship Offering

Alongside it, the Omoda 7 steps in as the brand’s flagship offering.

Moving into the mid-sized SUV segment, it presents a more refined take on the same design philosophy, distinguished by a borderless hexagonal grille and striking LED lighting signatures.

The interior pushes further into premium territory, anchored by a 15.6-inch sliding touchscreen that can shift between driver and passenger.

A 12-speaker Sony audio system and heavily bolstered “gaming-style” seats add to the model’s emphasis on immersive, comfort-focused technology.

In Beijing, both models showcased the brand’s Super Hybrid System (SHS), a series-parallel hybrid setup designed to balance performance and efficiency.

It integrates a fifth-generation dedicated hybrid engine and can seamlessly switch between electric-only driving in urban settings and hybrid operation for longer distances.

Unlike conventional hybrids, the SHS system is engineered to deliver higher power output while maintaining low fuel consumption, positioning it as a bridge between internal combustion and full electrification.

With the Omoda 4 and Omoda 7, the brand continues to refine its identity—combining expressive design, flexible electrification and advanced in-car technology targeting a new generation of global SUV buyers. - R Augustin
