BANGKOK: Lexus’ first plug-in hybrid electric (PHEV) RX is another highlight at the Bangkok International Motor Show 2023, held on 22 March – 2 April, 2023 at the Challenger Hall, Impact Arena Muang Thong Thani.

The Lexus RX 450h+ was launched in Thailand late last year, and comes in two all-wheel drive (AWD) grades, namely Luxury priced from 4.64 million baht (RM602,051) and Premium which starts from 5.09 million baht (RM660,440).

Lexus in Thailand offers a warranty on the 18.1 kWh lithium-ion battery for up to 10 years, unlimited mileage.

The fifth generation RX’s adapted GA-K platform allowing the hybrid battery to be located entirely beneath the vehicle floor.

This enhances dynamic performance by contributing to the car’s low centre of gravity and helps secure more space in the cabin and the load compartment.

Along with a multi-link rear suspension and adaptive variable suspension, which automatically adjusts itself in real-time, the new RX is said to deliver outstanding stability, exceptional road grip, and responsive steering and throttle.

The RX 450h+ delivers 304hp and has a 2.5-litre inline-four engine, large-capacity high-output lithium-ion batteries, and front and rear motors.

Its EV (electric vehicle) driving range is said to be 69km, and all-electric driving can be done up to 135km per hour.

Crucially, when the hybrid battery is depleted, the RX 450h+ switches to its advanced 4th generation self-charging hybrid system.

In most other plug-in hybrid vehicles, the car defaults to its petrol engine, which means higher emissions and poorer fuel economy until it can be connected to a power supply for recharging.

In the Lexus, the vehicle switches seamlessly to hybrid electric performance, so that the battery is recharged as you drive.
