Bangkok International Motor Show 2026: Chinese marques conquer


BANGKOK: The recently concluded 47th Bangkok International Motor Show (BIMS 2026) recorded a remarkable 132,951 vehicle bookings and 2,056 motorcycle bookings, while welcoming nearly 1.8 million visitors.

What's notable is that the top 10 most popular marques were dominated by Chinese automakers - BYD (17,354 bookings), Toyota (15,750), Omoda Jaecoo (15,088), MG (10,537), Changan's Deepal and Nevo (8,573), Geely (7,811), Chery (7,509), Great Wall Motor (GWM) (6,819), GAC (6,287) and Honda (5,907).

The auto show was held from March 25 to April 5, 2026, at Impact Challenger Hall 1 – 3, Muang Thong Thani.

Organised by Grand Prix International Public Company Limited, the auto show was themed “Iconic Synchronicity”, showcasing an integration of technology, innovation, and design.

In a statement, the company pointed out that the impressive vehicle bookings and visitors' figures reflect a steady recovery in purchasing power and growing market confidence, underscoring the resilience and continued momentum of Thailand’s automotive industry.

BIMS 2026 vice chairman Jaturont Komolmis said, "Despite the ongoing economic volatility in Thailand and geopolitical tensions, the Bangkok International Motor Show continues to serve as a key platform in supporting and driving the Thai automotive industry. For more than four decades, the event has consistently demonstrated its potential and importance to the sector.”

He highlighted that a key trend at this year’s event was the expansion of the electric vehicle (EV) segment, with leading automotive brands from both Asia and Europe introducing new technologies and innovations.

“The success of this year’s event is not measured solely by the number of bookings, but also by its role as a ‘platform’ that connects manufacturers, distributors, and consumers. More importantly, it contributes to driving Thailand’s automotive industry toward a tangible transition into the new energy era,” he added.

The auto show featured a wide range of sales promotions, special offers, and test drive activities.

It also showcased advancements in safety technologies, intelligent driver assistance systems, and future mobility solutions.

The 48th edition is scheduled to be held from March 22 to April 4, 2027, at Impact Muang Thong Thani.
