Berjaya mulls stakes in Chinese NEVs and smart tech

KUALA LUMPUR: Berjaya Corp Bhd is exploring new energy vehicles (NEV) and smart technologies.
Berjaya's subsidiary, Berjaya Eco-Drive Sdn Bhd, is mulling a partnership with Chinese NEV manufacturer New Energy Automobile Group Co Ltd to sell its products and services in Malaysia and the Asean region.
The group said a potential deal might include building an NEV ecosystem in the country.
NEVs comprised plug-in hybrids, battery electric vehicles and fuel-cell electric vehicles.
Berjaya Corp also said it was also looking at a potential partnership with Skyworth Group Co Ltd, a Chinese company that makes smart home appliances and assorted technologies.
It said the the parties would also explore developing and implementing green energy solutions, such as residential, commercial and industrial photovoltaic systems.
Berjaya Corp said it has already signed a memorandum of strategic collaboration with Skywell and Skyworth.
If the deals with Skywell and Skyworth materialised, they would bring far-reaching benefits to various sectors in Malaysia and South-East Asia, said Berjaya Corp founder and advisor Tan Sri Vincent Tan.
