Some vehicles spin out of control when speeding motorists are unable to negotiate the bends in Jalan Kemajuan Subang.
PETALING JAYA: Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) will be installing speed breakers and additional traffic signage along Jalan Kemajuan Subang to warn motorists to slow down near accident-prone areas.
It was learnt that motorists often lose control of their vehicles while negotiating bends in Jalan Kemajuan Subang and its exits into Federal Highway towards Klang and Kuala Lumpur.
Motorist Raymond Chang, who uses the road almost every day, said he witnessed accidents along the three bends almost daily.
“Vehicles often spin out of control when motorists are unable to negotiate the curves.
“It has been happening more frequently these last couple of years but nothing much has been done by the authorities.
“Accidents happen very often now, so often that tow truck operators are always on standby nearby, ” he said, adding that the authorities must do something to warn motorists of the danger.
“Motorists skid even when the road is dry and it gets worse on rainy days, ” he said.
MPSJ Corporate and Strategic Management deputy director Azfarizal Abdul Rashid said the council was aware of the safety hazard in these areas and had installed road markings and traffic signage to warn motorists.
“Many motorists are driving beyond the 50kph speed limit in the areas.
“To remind motorists to adhere to the speed limit, we will be installing yellow transverse bars (speed breakers) and more traffic signage, ” he said.
Residents of One Soho Subang service apartment, which has a view of one of the bends, claimed that the Jalan Kemajuan Subang stretch was not only prone to accidents, but also used for street racing after midnight.
One of the residents, Aaron Au, said the stretch was dubbed as “Subang Daytona.”
“From midnight until the early hours of dawn, cars can be heard revving and drifting at the bend in Jalan Kemajuan Subang.
“These ‘racers’ will usually start from Subang Parade heading towards the bend near One Soho Subang to make a U-turn and take the exits to Federal Highway.
“The stretch is ideal for racers because of the straight road that leads to the bend, ” he said.
He added that there were three residential high-rises near the area and residents had been putting up with the loud engine noise in the middle of the night for a long time.
“The apartment’s property management office wrote to MPSJ in 2016, requesting for a rumble strip to be installed to force vehicles to slow down, but nothing of that sort materialised, ” said Au.
A One Soho Subang property management office representative, who did not want to be named, said residents had lodged a police report on the alleged speeding and noise coming from the bend on Jalan Kemajuan Subang last month.
“The residents were complaining of sleepless nights because of the rampant noise.
“We can only look into problems that take place inside the apartment compound and since this is a complaint about an issue happening outside, we will let the police investigate and take appropriate action on the matter, ” the representative said.
