BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO3 tyre rolls out from RM825
By JAY WONG | 27 September 2024PETALING JAYA: BFGoodrich Malaysia has launched its latest off-road tyre, the All-Terrain (AT) T/A KO3.
The latest tyre is said to be the culmination of extensive research that builds on the outgoing KO2's abilities - allowing the KO3 tyre to be touted as more durable, tougher and with better traction.
Priced from RM825 to RM2,946 (depending on size), the latest off-road tyre is currently offered in 39 sizes starting from 16 to 20-inch wheels.
Another 19 more sizes are to come in 2025, expanding to include 15-inch wheels, as well as another four more sizes in 2026 to bring the total number of sizes to 62.
Currently made in Thailand and the US, the KO3 (Key Off-road 3) is said to be tougher by some 50% overall against the outgoing KO2 and even comes with a six-year manufacturer's warranty.
Aiming at the evolving needs of adventure-seekers who tend to traverse over all types of terrains, the latest KO3 has been presented with raised white lettering on the sidewall and the coveted Baja Champion badge (on selected tyre sizes) for visual differentiation.
The KO3's treads have been redesigned and matched to a new compound that's now more durable, especially over gravel, but what's even more impressive is that its wet traction allows it to stop 4.2m shorter than the KO2.
The footprint has also been optimized with its full-depth 3D locking sipes which help to evenly distribute stresses for a more uniform wear over the long run.
With what the company calls CoreGard Technology (also found on the BFGoodrich Baja T/A KR3 tyres), this is what gives the KO3 its sidewall toughness - hence the Baja Champion badge.
The technology extends split and bruise-resistant shoulder rubber down the sidewall to help protect the critical sidewall failure zone.
Additionally, the combination of the 3D locking sipes and serrated shoulder design is further bolstered by the Mud-Phobic Bars which have been adopted and further improved from the legacy KO2's mud and snow traction.
Doing so has helped the KO3 earn the Three-Peak Mountain Snowflake severe snow rating.
With interlocking tread elements, the tyre is designed to maximise handling and traction for both on and off-road journeys by stabilising the tread centre.
Furthermore, with its Advanced Deflection Design, it helps the tyre prevent objects from snagging and splitting the sidewall.
“Our commitment at BFGoodrich has always been to deliver products that meet the highest standards of performance and durability, and the All-Terrain T/A KO3 tyre is no exception," said Michelin Malaysia, Singapore, and Brunei managing director Prichapakorn Dangrojana.
Dangrojana explained that its off-road tyres are built by enthusiasts for enthusiasts, which reflects the company's understanding of its passionate all-terrain explorers' demands.
"We are excited to bring the BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO3 tyre to the Malaysian market and this is an embodiment of BFGoodrich’s pursuit of innovation to exceed the expectations of our customers who deserve the best for their vehicle needs wherever they go," he concluded.
