Big discounts offered on cars

PETALING JAYA: Tis’ the season to be merry, and it’s all there to see at the various car showrooms around the country.

With extra special year-end deals being dangled by car companies, buyers are rushing to get the business done by Dec 31.

To be entitled to the huge December discounts and rebates, most car companies require the new vehicles to be registered by next Sunday to help meet sales targets set for 2017.

With the Christmas holiday tomorrow, there is expected to be a mad dash at the Road Transport Department (JPJ) offices next week.

“The long school holidays in December is a boon as customers have the time to make their surveys at the various showrooms,” he said.

He said Naza projected a 25% increase in sales for Kia models in December compared with the previous month, adding that year-end promotions were also expected to help push sales for Peugeot and Citroen models.

For its 17th anniversary, Honda Malaysia is offering reward packages worth between RM4,000 and RM15,000 for selected car models.

Honda salesman Nicholas Foong said things were getting hectic with the year drawing to a close.

“The Honda CRV, Civic, Jazz and City continue to be our top models. Interest in these cars are maintained throughout the year,” said Foong, who works with Honda dealer Tenaga Setia Resources in Section 51 here.

Perodua has exclusive offers for the Axia, Bezza and Alza models with rebates of up to RM2,000.

Perodua Sales managing director Datuk Dr Zahari Husin said the demand for the all-new Perodua Myvi has reached a new milestone with over 20,000 units booked within a month from its launch.

“The focus now is to ensure delivery of the cars within an acceptable time-frame,” he added.

Edaran Tan Chong Motor Sdn Bhd (ETCM) is giving rebates of up to RM8,000 for selected Nissan models this month.

A company official said customers could also enjoy a RM1 promotion for the premium accessory package, if they opted for a rebate of up to RM6,500.

She said ETCM had partnered with The Walt Disney Company Malaysia to offer buyers the chance to win a Star Wars: The Last Jedi-themed holiday trip to Croatia.

Proton’s December promotion offers savings of up to RM8,000 on selected models while Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia’s “Volkswagen Sedanza” is offering low interest rates and rebates of RM10,000 and RM15,000 on certain sedan models.

Buyers can also save up to RM7,000 for selected models with Toyota Malaysia’s “RM1,000,000 Bonanza” promotion.

Mazda Malaysia’s nationwide “Mazda Festive Carnival” in December features exclusive deals and instant gifts.

Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) president Datuk Aishah Ahmad said things were looking up for the car industry with rising sales.

She said the sales volume in November increased by 4.6% from the previous month, with the total industry volume (TIV) till November this year being 1.3% higher compared with the same period last year.

The TIV up to November stands at 521,907 units, against 515,252 units sold in the corresponding period last year.

MAA had forecast in January that the year-on-year TIV in 2017 would grow by 1.7% to 590,000 units. - CLARISSA CHUNG
