BMW announces limited-edition Skytop roadster production
By CARSIFU | 14 October 2024MUNICH: BMW has unveiled plans to produce the BMW Skytop, a limited-run roadster following the success of the 3.0 CSL, introduced in 2022 to mark BMW M GmbH’s 50th anniversary.
The new two-seater, which debuted as a concept at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este in 2024, will see just 50 units made, all of which have already been reserved by collectors.
BMW’s design chief Adrian van Hooydonk announced the production decision during an event in Milan, Italy, highlighting the car’s blend of elegance and driving dynamics.
Powered by a 4.4-litre V8 engine producing 625 hp, the BMW Skytop is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100kph in around 3.3 seconds. The engine is paired with an eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission, and power is managed by the BMW xDrive all-wheel-drive system to enhance traction and stability.
The Skytop’s design is inspired by BMW’s historic roadsters, notably the BMW Z8, with its sleek, muscular bodywork and iconic shark-nose front. The vehicle also features advanced materials, including leather-covered roll bars and a retractable rear window, offering a pure roadster experience. Exclusive design elements include illuminated kidney grilles, slim custom-developed headlights, and intricate alloy wheels.
The interior of the BMW Skytop continues the theme of exclusivity, with premium leather seats, crystal accents, and an advanced Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System.
The vehicle also includes cutting-edge technology, such as the BMW Live Cockpit Professional with a Head-Up Display. A custom-applied Floating Sundown Silver paint finish with a unique chrome shadow effect enhances the car's visual appeal.
With its blend of performance, design, and craftsmanship, the BMW Skytop is set to become a coveted collector's item, much like the limited-edition 3.0 CSL. Fuel consumption for the Skytop is rated at 11.6 litres per 100 km, and it emits 264 g/km of CO2, according to the WLTP cycle.
